In social studies we are finishing up the American Revolution. We have focused on the first battle of the war (Lexington & Concord), the Declaration of Independence, and rounding out the week with the Battles of Saratoga & Yorktown. The test was originally scheduled for Monday, 2/12. I don't feel comfortable giving the test then, so we will be finishing up on Friday, reviewing on Monday and Tuesday with the test being on Wednesday, 2/14. Students should be bringing home their journals to study from.
Once we have finished fighting the Revolutionary War we will be switching topics and working on science. As your child may have mentioned, we got to visit the star lab yesterday (Thursday) and had an introduction to the planets and constellations. Today (Friday) we will be heading to the learning commons where Mrs. Nelson has put together a lesson on stars and planets. In math a huge focus this week has been during our number talks/reviewing our morning work. The morning work is a spiral review and it includes new concepts that we haven't had a chance to get to. In class we have been introducing through skits what to do with a remainder. Students need to understand what a remainder represents and that you don't always have to use it or sometimes you use it in different ways. This can be a challenging concept for some and a lot of reading comprehension comes into play. |
